I'm back...but first-Xploited News

Hey everyone...I have to say that I've been on vacation and had bad things happen. This was NOT one of those times. However, I can't help but think of the year that I left for the shore and my boss sold the business I was working (very hard) at while I was gone today. Because one of my favorite stops on the web is going away and though I'm sure the time is right, I can't help but be a tad bummed out.
Xploited Cinema is moving on... read more here and then come back.

All set?

I've known Tony for some years-back when I worked for Sight and Sound and Playback Trading I was always happy to have some professional dealings with him, but it was his knowledge mixed with the way he ran Xploited that made them the ONLY place I wanted to buy my import DVDs.
Even when I worked for a DVD Importer! My boss was probably pissed, but Tony had better prices...I'm hoping for the best for Tony and his merry band of Xploited Cinemaniacs and one day we will have to share some beers (maybe Cinema Wasteland in '09 will work) and have a few laughs. Hell, if not for Xploited I wouldn't have big scads of German Backyard Gore, nearly all of the Jess Franco titles he has imported (and there are LOTS), some groovy tunes and even finding another fan of Al Brescia's AMAZONS AND SUPERMEN was a big thrill. Also, the surprisingly great experience I had selling the Ascension Of The Blind Dead chapbook is highlighted by having WAY too much fun including an Xploited ad just because I hoped it would steer some readers from Shocklines his way. I'm still damn fond of that ad...I'll see if I can find it in my files.

And Tony... I actually now OWN a Japanese LD of that film! We should put the two together and make the largest LD library of Al Brescia peplum ever created.

I'll miss my thrice daily trips to the ever familiar Xploited Webshop, but I'll always have the amazing discs (including some Italian DVDs of Lamberto Bava films that he kindly grabbed for me!) to watch. Thanks for all the amazing service and incredible selection of DVDs over the years-I appreciate it and wouldn't be NEARLY as insane about my hobby if I didn't have Xploited to thank (or blame ;)

So, go and BUY all that swag you have been holding off on. I have a want list longer than my arm sitting in a notebook-time to get cracking on it. Just the books section could break me, and then there are all those Spaghetti Westerns, Peplums and wait...one more Jess Franco film.

And hey...I found the Ad from ASCENSION OF THE BLIND DEAD. Yep, I love this one.

Ratman on DVD!

Nelson de la Rosa and the Red Sox-good times!

Just in time for Red Sox opening day!! Xploited Cinema now has the anamorphic widescreen release of the 80's Eurotrash classic RATMAN in stock! Nelson de la Rosa, the dimunitive denizen of the Dominican will delight you with his touching man/monster turn. Eva Grimaldi will shower and shower and run from the Ratman. David Warbeck will attempt to hypnotize you into thinking he is not there! And not only do you get them doing their best to sell you on the monster that hides in the toilet, but Janet Agren and Tough To Kill fave Werner Pochath are also in the cast of characters.
One of my favorite things about this film is that it bears all the hallmarks of being written by Dardano Sacchetti and Elisa Briganti-an abundance of goofy characters and lots of trashy horror setpieces move along the running time with ease. Director Giuliano Carnimeo is best know to Spaghetti Western fans as "Anthony Ascott" and post nuke historians will also recall him as "Jules Harrison" of Exterminators Of The Year 3000 infamy. What a career-and Ratman, while not exactly the culmination of all that experience, is a great bit of 80's horror served with extra pasta.

Super Stooges Against The Wonder Women on DVD! Al Brescia Strikes!

Some discs just EXISTING is a miracle. Now, I have to admit that I'm an Al Bradley / Al Brescia fan. Yes, I know that his movies are plain old "bad," yet I find most all of them enjoyable. Miami Cops? Great! Cross Mission-the movie with the satanic dwarf inserted into a cheap action flick? CLASSIC. Don't even get me started on the Star Wars rips-I've viewed them all several times. And yes...THE BEAST IN SPACE is as demented as it sounds. So, I could not resist scooping up this funny little clone of the Three Fantastic Supermen series on disc. No Brad Harris, but lots of goofy music and fights-as well as the aformentioned WONDER WOMEN. Slapstick galore, some fun stunts and in a strange way it reminds me of one of Brescia's best-The Revolt Of The Praetorians.
Interestingly, the disc presents the film widescreen and looking quite a bit better than the previous edition I watched-from Greek videotape, but this is yet another case of "Alternate Edit" blues of a sort. Being that the languages are English and Italian-it looks like this version is the straight comedy edition for Italian audiences. The English export contained an opening battle scene that is pretty damn violent-and doesn't set the comedy mood. This version goes right into the humor, starting with a goofy bar fight that introduces our heroes. However, Simpel Movie (???) has included that sequence as a bonus scene-taken from the greek VHS. So, watch that first and continue right along into the feature.
Besides...this has Malisa Longo as an Amazon Woman...what more do I need? That little fact had me digging for a nice reference for her career and I can't believe that she has her own OFFICIAL SITE! And if you poke around you can even find some cast shots from the film!

Here are some images, the cover and at the end of the post is a slideshow I made from the truly BresciaScope opening sequence. You can purchase this amazing and limited to 333 copies disc from XPLOITED CINEMA by clicking HERE.
Act now or you may miss your chance to own this one!

Naschy Claws Your DVD Player at LAST!!

First, I know I know I know that I've been M.I.A. Many apologies and thanks for the "get blogging soon" cards-I appreciate them. Lots of good things brewing and I'll talk on them soon I'm sure. But I had to give a heads up to let everyone know that BCI's first release from the Paul Naschy collection is available at Xploited Cinema!
BUY IT...NOW!! CLICK HERE. DO YOU HEAR ME???
I've been critical of BCI in the past (and I bet I will be in the very near future), but I'd like to see everyone that digs trashy movies on DVD grab this disc. Why? Because I'm selfish and they have two Ossorio titles that I really need on DVD. So, help them help me help you!
Oh, and Night Of The Werewolf is an incredible film by the way, you won't regret the purchase.

More soon, just had to share this....

Frankenstein 2000 DVD'Amato

After a bit of downtime I was feeling particularly inspired by one of my trash film favorites, Joe D'Amato this week. Not only are several of his Black Emmanuelle films out on DVD, but his last horror film, Frankenstein 2000, is finally in my hands in the Raro Video edition! Frankenstein 2K is one of those movies that gets schluffed off as "good for what it is," but that is an undervaluing of this cool, though late, entry into the eurohorror legacy of Aristide Massaccesi. One of Filmirage's best horror productions, this film is a blast from the past that I would recommend to anyone that likes their horror done up B-grade with extra sauce. You have D'Amato himself, a screenplay by Donatella Donati and Antonio Tentori (based on a draft by Michele Soavi), D'Amato alumni Donald O'Brien and Cinzia Monreale and a monster by Maurizio Trani. Sort of a mix between Mary Shelly and Fulci's Aenigma (which was more than a little inspired by Patrick)-this is the tale of a girl, her psychic possession of her old pal and a whole lot of vengeance. With blood...and Frankenstein monsters whipping around power wires.
Great stuff....I love it.
The DVD looks better than the previous Red Edition release, but not by a stunning amount. Just the fact that it is on disc and available is a reason to celebrate however.
I could ramble on and on, but instead, I'll let some images do the work-check out THIS monster, and if you feel compelled to join the Franky2K army, you can get a copy at Xploited Cinema of course...just click here (INDUCT ME INTO THE FILMARAGE FRANKENCLUB!)

Rarrrrrrrrrrrr(o)! Check out the hospital wing old Joe created just for us...now THAT is funny.

Xploited Roundup o' The Week

Nope, I'm not down, just resting...everyone got hit by the flu (just before we get hit with some snow) around our parts it seems. So, gentle re-entry as I point out some nifty items some of you may need from Xploited Cinema.

I'm a big Filmirage fan, and it is nice to see Raro releasing FRANKENSTEIN 2000, which is a wacked out little film-and perhaps the final D'Amato horror picture. Previously available in a less than stellar Red Edition from Germany-anyone that digs cheap n' grimy Italian horror will enjoy it. Not to mention that Cinzia Monreale AND Donald O'Brien appear...which is a draw for me anyhow.

Goliath And The Barbarians in widescreen? YEP! I'm up for ANY and ALL Peplum films being letterboxed and this one is a particularly fun entry into the genre. Steve Reeves muscles his way through the show and any fan of swords n' sandals should enjoy it!
Renato Polselli (whose classic Delerium will be in my soon to be put up Pinnacle list) directed The Vampire And The Ballerina, and though this disc has no English language track I would still love to see the film! Come on US dvd labels...snap this up!!

The ultra cool Stephen Norrington film Death Machine is out on DVD uncut? I sold my Japanese LD and missed it ever since...but now it can be replaced! If you saw the cut down print and liked it at all, this one is a must. Features one REALLY disturbing bit that fleshes out the lead character and made me wonder how exactly anyone thought cutting it would be a good idea! On sale no less...

I did watch Barricade this weekend and enjoyed it, a full review will follow shortly. If you like hardcore splatter, more splatter and bonus effects by Olaf Ittenbach...get it!

Year End...THE DVD/Book/Soundtrack HOOK UP...XPLOITED!

In my mind there is only ONE shop for buying your import DVD selections, your books of the bizarre and your soundtracks of suspiriatical superbness. Xploited Cinema out of Ohio is far and away the best for service, price and overall excellence. No lie, they tolerate my shrieking need for all things Jess Franco with a smile and have provided me with more German splatter than most human minds could tolerate.
Never slow and always helpful, if you have tried them out you already know, and if not-I recommend that you do as soon as possible!
Click here and check out the horrific worlds of wonder they can provide.
