Bruno Mattei...Rest well and thank you.

I've posted more than a few times about our man Bruno Mattei. I truly love his films, and prefer watching them to nearly any Argento film. And this week he left us, still working and making zombie movies...happily cranking out his movies that he would call "shit" to anyone that listened.
And yes, I took this one hard. Bruno Mattei's filmography is the very epitome of Eurotrash Cinema. Killer Nuns, Menacing Mutants and Gore Gore Gore all collided in a strange mish mash of shocking celluloid.
Here are a few links to my older musings (oddly, just over a year ago!) Some posters... some stuff on the return of Bruno... and the BLOOD KILL trailer.
This got me to thinking... I'd love to post a tribute to the great man, but tributes aren't what are needed. Besides, I doubt I can express how much I enjoyed these films in a way I'll feel proper. So... Bruno Mattei left us with a large body of work-and with some new films yet to be released. So lets ENJOY them! Now, that is easy to say...but if you are feeling a little less than thrilled about it I'll put up something from my collection to give you a shove towards the VCR or DVD player. All you have to do is post a short review, a funny recollection (yep, I saw someone actually vomit while watching Hell Of The Living Dead during the stock footage), a brief tribute to the man...anything at all and you'll be entered into a drawing to win a Japanese VHS pre-record (no crappy boots here) of Bruno Mattei's ultra fun and sadly obscure action flick DOUBLE TARGET. Keep Bruno in your thoughts and go to the comments section and hit me up. The tape is free and the fun will be spread all over.

I have a pop up crushed old tribute to Bruno on my previous site, Tomb Of DVD here... If anyone would like to check it out, I could repost the information.

I'm very saddened to hear of his passing, but I'm going to be eternally glad to share his work. VIVA BRUNO! Thanks for all the exploding huts and zombiriffic nuts. Now hit those comments and win...

I'm up for some greatness my man! The man was and always will be a true master of horror/sleaze! :)

Now... time to watch Snuff Trap and Island of Death!

We've talked many times on-line and off about our mutual love for Mattei, and this is especially sad news since the man was still doing his thing.

I'll never forget going to the Super 130 Drive-In in Edgewater Park, NJ to see a late season horror triple bill. The last flick on the bill turned out to be a retitled version of NIGHT OF THE ZOMBIES (aka HELL OF THE LIVING DEAD).

My buddy Lou and I settled into our lawn chairs in the cool October air, cracked some beers and settled in for the fun. We'd seen NIGHT several times already so we were just thrilled to be seeing it on the big (outdoor) screen.

About 2/3 of the way through we noticed something wasn't quite right. The projectionist had screwed up the reels and was showing them out of order!

We got up from our chairs and wandered back to the projection shack. The projectionist came out and we informed him what had happened. He looked at us and looked at his watch -- it was probably aroun 1 AM at this point -- and said, "Yeah, I know, but I figured nobody would notice!"

We shrugged our shoulders and headed back to our seats, reveling in the fun of NIGHT, even if it was totally out of order.
