Favorite European Trash Cinema Images - Irina Karnstein

There are some images in European Trash Cinema that inspire me, and Lina Romay emerging from the mist at the beginning of Female Vampire (or the better title of The Bare Breasted Countess) is one. Below are some cool interpretations of Countess Irina by two talented gents. Ade Salmon posted on HIS BLOG about the return of the super cool Terry Sharp and I could never forget his awesome confrontation with Lina! Below are the color version, as well as the original artwork from my collection (yes indeed, I'm a lucky guy!)

And here is a little sketch that Neil Vokes (check HIS blog here) tossed in a Christmas package one year. He was inspired by Lina in the series Love Bites, which really should be in print Eros, but I love this little card.

What really makes me smile is that both artists nail the belt and the lack of pants-Ade's angular design is awesome, because the original scene is foggy enough one might think that Irina subscribes to walking around in bottoms in the full version of The Bare Breasted Countess. She does not.
Ah, the early 70s ruled in pelvic unruliness.

So, here is to Lina Romay, Countess Irina Karnstein and one of the many great images of European Trash Cinema!

Thank you Jess!!

Fah, this scene is all wrong in the clothed variant!! Just say no.

Paul Naschy and that Virginia License Plate

Now here is a great picture of Paul Naschy...for several reasons. If you look at the license plate you see it is American and it belonged to Fanzine publisher and all around EuroTrash Cinema expert Bob Sargent of Videooze infamy. Bob sent it to him as a gift many years ago, and it showed up HERE with an article on the passing of Paul Naschy.
This plate was actually in use, and when Bob had the chance to send it along to el Hombre Lobo as a birthday gift he used "a gallon of windex" to make it shine and be "fit for a king!"
Naschy was the King of Spanish Horror, and his fans really loved, and continue to love, the man behind the monsters. Amazing!!

Bob produced an amazing Videooze issue on Paul Naschy, we really should see if he has any left. Released in 1994, it contains a great interview and words from Naschy on his own films that will leave you smiling and laughing! Any fan's library is not complete without this magazine in my opinion.

Paul Naschy - Thank you el Hombre Lobo

The cinema of Paul Naschy / Jacinto Molina is special, and the man himself-the brains and brawn behind Waldemar Daninsky, Gotho the Hunchback and Alaric de Marnac-was a truly special individual.

Paul Naschy passed away in a year that found his work being restored and unleashed on the world once more... He signed autographs for his new comic book works with Javier Trujillo... He saw statues of his characters produced...he wrote novels of Alaric de Marnac. And he could look back at a film career that exemplified the success of a fan of the cinema made good.
Paul Naschy left us not looking back at what was, but looking ahead and expanding his imagination. I'm grateful that he was able to enjoy this year.

I could write for hours about how important his films are to me, his unique (to say the least) interpretation of the icons of the fantastic cinema are dearer to me than most of the original stories that inspired him!

I will always enjoy his films and look forward to seeing every thing he has created in recent years find an audience all around the world.

Thank you Paul Naschy, I know many people that love you and your work... we will always remember you and appreciate the stories of werewolves, hunchbacks and tragic heroes you gave us!
